I’d love to share a favorite picture book of my 5-year-old, number-loving, bilingual son with ASD.
Do you know Numberblocks?
It’s a children’s math animation created by BBC TV in the UK.
My number-loving child, who was counting numbers even before he could speak proper words, is absolutely obsessed.
He’s almost six, but he’s already been a fan for four years!

These are annual books.
Why Numberblocks is Awesome for Kids with ASD
You Can See the Math
Numbers are usually just abstract ideas, right?
But in Numberblocks, they’re these cool, blocky characters you can actually see combining, splitting, and growing. This makes tricky math concepts so much easier to get for kids with ASD.
Super Predictable & Tidy
The show has a really clear pattern, and the Numberblocks always solve problems in a straightforward way.
Kids with ASD often love routines and predictability, so this makes them feel comfortable and helps them really focus in.
Perfect for Number Nerds
Some kids with ASD are totally fascinated by numbers.
Numberblocks taps right into that! It gives them a super fun way to dive deep into numbers and explore their special interest.
Repetition That Works
They repeat key math ideas and number facts a lot, but they do it in fun songs and different scenarios so it never gets boring.
This consistent repetition really helps the learning stick.

My son’s Favorite Numberblock: Four
My son especially loves Numberblock Four!
And Four’s song, “Four on the Dance Floor,” is incredibly upbeat. Just as the title suggests, it’s so catchy that even we parents can’t help but get into the rhythm!
My son loves Numberblocks so much that besides the picture books, he has a big collection of the blocks, plush toys, stickers, and more!
I’ll be sure to share them with you sometime.
